Growing up southern these guys were our Grateful Dead. They influenced our generation as much or more as any band out there. My first show was the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers for free in Piedmont Park and for sure my woeld changed that day. Keep up the good work brother..we love what you do.

This brings back a wide range of textured memories. First thing I thought of when I saw/heard them back in 70 something was a freight train chugging down the line. Two drummers and thumping bass with glass bottle slide riding on top. Never wanted it to end. Can see the smoke drifting across in front of the stage lights. Music builds and then each player left the stage until it was only the drums. They came back one by one and resumed the song. Amazing. Last time I saw them was the last show that Betts played. It was outdoors at a festival. Sorry I can't remember all the details. I really enjoyed this article.

I've been to my 4th (and last sadly) Beacon show last night and like the previous 3 shows that I attended(yes I did get to see one of the Clapton shows)was reminded once again just how lucky I am to be alive to witness "live" the Allman Brothers during what may prove to be their best of many incarnations. Don't get me wrong, the orginal lineup with Berry and Duane can never be rewritten for so many reasons including the era in which they took the stage but for my money this current lineup with Warren and the ridiculously talented Derek Trucks reminds us all of the ground breaking idea of twin lead guitarists who played almost as one that the Allman's were all about when they first got together some 40 years ago. I found the Allman's back in 1971 through an older sister and while I was only 13 at the time I was mesmerized from the start. They continue to bring a lot of enjoyment to anyone within earshot on a global basis and for them to STILL be together after 40 years in a business that chews up and spits out stars like stale chewing gum that's no small feat. God bless their talent and they continue to be a bridge between the old great American Blues artists of the past and the music today.
