Well, Derek, I know what you look like because so many folks pointed you out at MerleFest years ago, now, and told me ya'll were looking for writers for GRITZ. I called you and said I'd be a Clifftop but a family emergency kept me home that year on my birthday. I guess that must have been 2002 or so. Well, I never found a paper copy of GRITZ and I had everybody and their brother-in-law lookin for a copy of the mag. It never occurred to me that it was paperless online. Go figure. I just love the ink and paper. Sort of old fashioned like John (hartford). He would love to see all the notes I've taken over the years but I never did like them old index cards. So just like Woody, I'll scribble on just about anything. We were all waiting to see what was going to happen. You never know at Clifftop. Last year some of our buds down in the bottom were nearly struck by lightning that Sunday morning. I was just laying there thinking maybe bein' under these tall old trees wasn't such a good idea after all. But we all lived to sing another day that time. We sure hated to hear about Mike and his long good-bye but we were a prayin' and a hopin' that he could make it. I think he did IN SPIRIT even before he died, but that's just a myth, right? I heard he had died before we all left on Sunday and then we found out later that that was false. All the folks at Clifftop will certainly tell you the TRUTH so far as they know it but what with the cell coverage around there...ya just never can tell! So if it's all the same to ya'll I'd just rather think of Mike up there with my Daddy (Son), my Daddy Harless, grandpa Morris, Granny, Martin Bell and all the saints. Just a fishin', whistlin', whittlin', playin all the guitars, banjos, mandos and steel guitars that they can stand. Martin must be playin the only piano in the house and it must be an upright Grand. They'll all drink some wine or whiskey or grape juice and all will be well with my Soul and theirs. halleluia, AMEN. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition! kirie ellison Kate (KLM) Morris here on Smokey Road, my home Alabama 35007
